Hospitalists (Passion Project #1)
What is this career about?
Hospitalists practice and train in a hospital where they treat an array of different medical conditions. These types of doctors work with patients staying in the hospital due to severe injuries. Therefore, overtime, hospitalists develop plenty of diversity in terms of knowledge of a certain patient. Furthermore, these specialists also provide general medical care, as well as leading the medical team. Hospitalists must have a working expertise in most areas, because many patients in the hospital contain different diseases – which hospitalists need to take care of. Although hospitalists can rely on other specialists, basic knowledge on the patient’s disease is required.
Moreover, hospitalists are professionally trained to provide continuous care to patients before an individual returns to their primary care doctor.
How are the duties of this job relevant to your character strengths and personal values?
A successful hospitalist will be able to collaborate freely with other specialists. My character strengths correspond with this strength since I can produce positive influences by developing certain synergy with other specialists. By doing so, positive goals will be formed since ideas are being combined to achieve a greater possibility. I will have to put in meticulous work in order to increase better information exchange and creative performance. This career represents scoring highly on extraversion. Although my personal trait does not relate to extraversion, throughout the experiences gained in this career path, I believe I can show warmth, positivity, and gregariousness within this journey. Changing one’s personality may be complicated, since an individual will be required to adapt to new conditions. Even though this process will take time, being an extraversion will awaken me to a new perspective of being a new individual. This includes the realization of being positive and showing affection to the ones who have serious health conditions.
What kinds of personal soft skills such as communication, leadership, and kinship are involved in this career? What is your status quo regarding these soft skills? How do you plan to improve these soft skills?
Soft skills such as confidence and stress management are essential. A hospitalist must express the idea to an individual, whether a patient or a specialist. Confidence will allow a hospitalist to engage in new opportunities, therefore, preparing for life’s experiences. Examples include earning an additional certification.
Hospitalists who have gained an understanding strive to become leaders. Communication and leadership correlate with one another since I will be able to think of rapid solutions during emergencies.
Stress management is considered one of the most important skills for hospitalists because of the amount of stress and difficulty being generated throughout the academics of the MD (doctoral degree). A hospitalist who has mastered how to control stress management can successfully help their body adapt (resilience) during a period of difficulty. Specialists who operate under manageable levels of stress will be more positive when treating a patient, which can also impact the patients’ trust. A positive hospitalist will ensure a patient's confidence for recovery,
In closing, kinship is one of the most cardinal abilities to attain through the developing process of a successful hospitalist. Although kinship may be a difficult ability for me to achieve, I plan on obtaining a close and trustworthy relationship with patients or other individuals who require medical support. I can modify my characteristics into developing trust with every patient, no matter who they are.
What hard skills - i.e. academic knowledge and technical expertise - are required to succeed in this career? Do you have sufficient foundation knowledge?
The most basic fundamental knowledge for a hospitalist are calculus, chemistry, biology, and physics. These basic subjects should be studied throughout the courses of the bachelors degree.
To begin with, mathematics is the most fundamental subject for academics. Calculus is required since universities look for hospitalists with high quality understanding of mathematics. Basic mathematics can assist hospitalists intimately with certain difficulties. This includes blood pressure, daily dose of medicine, and much more.
In addition to mathematics (calculus), chemistry is another important academic subject for a hospitalist. A successful hospitalist should be obliged to prove important hypotheses that relate to the use of drugs/medicine. Without the knowledge of chemistry, certain experiments of drugs may be performed incorrectly.
Furthermore, biology is a study that covers most of the information of the living human body. Biology can provide many hospitalists the precise and detailed molecular study within the soma. Many hospitalists who excel in biology will be able to comprehend many difficult obstacles that correlate with the study of living organisms. This is because the study of biology can ensure the safety of the operation. Hospitalists are required to be conscious of whether the surgery contains a chance of survival for the patient.
In closing, the advanced study of physics will be contained through the courses of the bachelor's degree. Physics begets many medicines practices or advanced technology such as X-rays and much more.
After earning the bachelor's degree, an individual who strives to achieve the potential of being a hospitalist is required to take the MCAT exam. ( 7.5 hour, standardized, multiple choice exam.) This exam is specialized to test the applicant's knowledge of science, reasoning and much more.

Earn Medical Degree (4 years)
An individual who endeavors to become a hospitalist must earn the Medical degree. In order to succeed in obtaining a medical degree, the most common tip is to study in an environment where one can feel comfortable.
How do you plan to achieve career enhancement if you decide to move on with this career path?
If I decided to continue on with this career path, I would strive to learn academic knowledge. Throughout this process, I believe I would successfully attain the personality traits within the in depth studies of many complicated subjects. I believe I will be able to interact among other individuals who are attempting to achieve the same possibilities as I am.
My intention for this career path is to achieve high results since this career requires many different medical knowledge. I acknowledge the stress and difficulty related to the doctoral knowledge, but nevertheless, I realized that is where personalities commence.
General Internal Medicine Physicians (Passion Project #2)
What is this career about?
A general physician doctor tends to provide medical care to patients in an office setting, in hospitals, and through an ambulatory basis.These types of doctors mainly focus on adult medicine, such as diabetes, heart disease, and other types of serious health conditions. In addition to their medical tasks, interns also organize the patients schedule into a healthy lifestyle. General internal medicine doctors typically choose to focus on one disease or one part of the body. Internalists are professionally trained to help patients provide precise medical guidance, which is required for illness prevention. Furthermore, general internal doctors also provide continuing care for patients who suffer from depression or anxiety - treatments related to mental disabilities.
How are the duties of this job relevant to your character strengths and personal values?
An internist can provide precise care to a patient utilizing personality skills such as determination. My characteristics correlate with this personality since I can make positive impacts in this nation by creating possibilities with my innate talent. Nevertheless, in order to achieve these possibilities, I have to put in diligent work to make them a reality. This career represents showing concern and affection to those who have diseases and illnesses. Throughout my past experiences, I can show goodwill to any subject of harm whom I come across. Showing affection awakens us to a new perspective in this world since affection can benefit our own mental health. This includes lowering blood pressure, stabilizing one’s mood, and much more.
What kinds of personal soft skills such as communication, leadership, and kinship are involved in this career? What is your status quo regarding these soft skills? How do you plan to improve these soft skills?
Soft skills such as leadership is essential since doctors such as general internists need to provide important and useful perspectives which are valuable even outside of medical education. Leadership can benefit a doctor's first reaction when an emergency occurs. Leaders strive to achieve the potential to react and come up with vital decisions rapidly during medical cases.
Communication is also essential in this career as an internist needs to efficiently communicate with other doctors or patients. Communication can lead to successful problem solving, which results in looking at different perspectives. When communicating with a patient, internists tend to gain a sophisticated understanding about the patient if they cooperate. Another benefit of exceeding communication skills is that an internist can develop a healthy and loyal relationship with the patient. This is crucial since the internists main priority is to cure the patient's disease.
In closing, kinship is also one of the most pivotal abilities an individual needs to attain to become a successful internist. In order to perform an operation, the patient needs to detect trust. Although I may not excel in communicating and making connections with other individuals, I plan on overcoming the difficulties. For example, I can commence by being more open to possibilities and new ideas, put aside judgment, and much more.
What hard skills - i.e. academic knowledge and technical expertise - are required to succeed in this career? Do you have sufficient foundation knowledge?
Academic subjects such as mathematics, English language, biology and chemistry are required to succeed in this career. Mathematics is beneficial since internists measure an individual's blood pressure, weight, and temperature. General Medicine Internist’s take blood to determine whether one has the right blood mix of blood cells. As an internist performs surgeries, math is required in surgical operations due to the fact that X-rays are used.
Additionally, the English language is mandatory since in Canada, patients mostly speak English. Throughout the whole surgical process, internists need to communicate with the patient in order to notice if there are any changes in the human body.
Moreover, biology is the paramount subject for any type of internist. Biology is the study of the mechanisms of life. Furthermore, the understanding of biology is fundamental in developing fundamental diagnostic methods.
Lastly, chemistry should be studied if one is looking to move on with the career: General Internal Medicine Physician. Mainly, chemistry is used for sanitization or the development of new drugs.
After accomplishing exceeding marks for these subjects, the most difficult section of medical school studies. To begin, an individual must attain a bachelor's degree from a satisfactory university. This will approximately take around 4 - 5 years. The bachelors degrees studies is included with the subjects listed above: i.e mathematics.
Applying to a medical school ought to be done after obtaining the bachelor's degree. An individual should submit letters, communicate during interviews, and so on. If an individual is able to enter a medical school, they should persevere to complete its prestigious courses. Students will experience studies including law, or real life experiences in a medical hospital. This will also include taking exams, such as the MCAT and others’.
Every state has specific requirements that are included when practicing medicine. Individuals must pass the Internal Medicine Board Certification Examination (IMBCE).
After obtaining a license, then an individual will fully become a general internal medicine physician.
How do you plan to achieve career enhancement if you decide to move on with this career path?
If I decide to move on with this career path, I would first achieve the requirements related to this career. Throughout this process, I will gain many personalities that are beneficial to this field. Within the harsh academic requirements, I will achieve an understanding of perseverance since I believe there will be stages where I will feel like giving up. I will achieve academic success whilst striving to understand the concepts of communication, leadership, and kinship.
My objective is to attain a doctoral degree from a top medical university. This intention will be intricate to achieve mainly in the cause of the academic pressure. As a result, I acknowledge that this will be an arduous task. With the help of personality development, I believe I can obtain the success related to this career.
Psychiatrists (Passion Project #3)
What is this career about?
A psychiatrist is a branch of medicine that specializes in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders. A successful psychiatrist excels in both medical and psychological problems/disorders. An individual who develops mental disorders such as frightening hallucinations, thoughts of suicide, and much more can seek immediate help from a psychiatrists. A psychiatrist can order or perform a full range of medical and psychological tests which, along with the consent of patients, help provide the patient's current medical state. Their education and clinical expertise provides them to understand complex relationships between emotional and medical sources to evaluate psychological data in order to develop treatment plans. Through this process, a patient will develop a trusting connection along with the psychiatrist, therefore, increasing the treatment rate.
How are the duties of this job relevant to your character strengths and personal values?
A psychiatrist can provide perpetual care to a patient with serious mental disorders. My character strengths correspond with this personality since I can enhance psychological safety and cultivate trust, harmony, and innovation. Each small aspect can lead to different outcomes in psychological tests. In the absence of care, the patient will not be able to cooperate fully, and the result of the tests will have different outcomes. If I pursue this career, I believe that I will be able to serve and benefit the nation by ensuring the extent of care required.
Another trait belonging to psychiatrists is the ability to listen attentively to the words patients are discussing. Throughout this process, the patient will freely express their mental problems to the psychiatrist. Therefore increasing the possibility of treatment. My personal values correlate with this personality since I can convey respect for an individual's self knowledge, and form connections with the individual’s background. Through shared knowledge, transmitted in both directions, psychiatrists and patients can develop an authentic, viable care plan.
What kinds of personal soft skills such as communication, leadership, and kinship are involved in this career? What is your status quo regarding these soft skills? How do you plan to improve these soft skills?
Personal soft skills such as communication is essential in this career since arranging successful psychological tests and receiving fundamental knowledge of the patient relies on this expertise. Therefore, the psychiatrist will be able to solicit crucial health information. Communication can benefit psychiatrists accuracy in designing different psychological tests, since psychiatrists need to express different ideas/aspects to each other.
Furthermore, leadership is an acquisition of soft skills that an individual needs to discover and achieve throughout the academic/mental process. A successful psychiatrist applies leadership to students which will lead to pragmatic and worthwhile impacts being created throughout the nation. Students will become accommodating individuals due to the leader’s strive to change the negative mindset through certain experiences.
In closing, I plan on overcoming the difficulty of achieving the requirements of soft skills such as leadership. Although I may not excel in public speaking, I can ameliorate by developing situational awareness, inspire the individuals who aim to succeed, and lastly, encourage personal and professional growth.

Academic knowledge for Psychiatrists includes mathematics, therapy, psychology, and English Language.
Mathematics is essential since psychiatrists need sophisticated understanding on how machinary/test objects function. Psychiatrists need to evaluate certain graphs in order to create the most suitable care plans for patients. An example is the life graph. These types of graphs contain vital information of the patient’s depression, dysthymia, GAD, soma dis, social phobia, etc.
Moreover, therapy is considered one of the most vital subjects a psychiatrist needs to ace. Psychiatrists need to learn the ability to control themselves through difficult times. They will also need to explain and analyze such information to their patients.
Psychology is related to mental problems occurring throughout the human mind, therefore, correlates to the academic knowledge of a psychiatrist. Psychology helps psychiatrists acknowledge how mental problems affect human behavior.
English Language is essential since in order to communicate, an individual must be able to speak the same language as the patient. Communication in any field of medicine is considered a fundamental skill to establish a healthy relationship with the patient, therefore paving a way to successful future treatment.
After achieving exceeding marks for these subjects, an individual will need to complete the Bachelor of Science degree.
3 - 4 years of undergraduate university degree of Bachelor of Science.
Many psychiatrists have achieved other degrees such as the Masters, PhD, and many more.
After obtaining the Bachelor of Science degree, an individual must apply and complete medical school. Throughout this process, the undergraduate is bound to feel workload stress and difficulties preparing incoming tests. Although the process may be difficult, personalities tend to form here. One may develop the skill of perseverance and determination. One may also develop the skill of public speaking throughout delivering presentations and evaluating speeches during assemblies.
Medical school tends to take 4 years. Throughout the medical school, applicants will learn

forensic psychology
psychopharmacology
chemical dependency
Additionally, applicants will be required to take the MCAT exam. This exam is taken throughout Canada (except for Quebec).

How do you plan to achieve career enhancement if you decide to move on with this career path?
If I decide to move on with this career path, I would strive for exceeding marks related to academic success. Although this journey may be difficult since there will be many impeding barriers such as preferences, I will employ this process to gain a deeper understanding of myself and the personalities I correlate with.
I will strive to be successful with the understanding of communicating, and grasping new opportunities.
While having dreams of graduating from a successful medical school, I plan on pursuing the medical path and making positive impacts throughout the nation.
Family Medicine Physicians
What is this career about?
Family medicine physicians provide exhaustive health care for patients of all ages - from newborns to elders. Family physicians treat patients regardless of age or current health condition. These doctors tend to sustain a continuous and trusting relationship with the patient. Family physicians supply patients with deterrent care, including frequent routine checkups, collecting health status, immunization, and educating on preserving a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, family physicians manage the nation's most major health problems such as diabetes, asthma, and even cancer.
How are the duties of this job relevant to your character strengths and personal values?
A family medicine physician can provide ongoing care for a patient without making excuses or losing courage. Throughout my life experiences, I have gained an understanding that supporting others can make an individual feel like they have made a positive impact in the nation. My beliefs and personality still stands beside aiding others throughout their hardest times: either financially or medically. This career path also represents helping people through health care. I can invest my intellect, skills, and passion to positively influence young students into becoming a beneficence individual in the future.
What kinds of personal soft skills such as communication, leadership, and kinship are involved in this career? What is your status quo regarding these soft skills? How do you plan to improve these soft skills?
Soft skills such as communication and kinship are very important throughout this career. Communication skills can help a family medicine physician to properly understand his/her patient’s problems and worries. Without communication, an individual family physician will not be able to understand or discuss the concerns with a patient. Currently, I can efficiently communicate with others since I am an outgoing and open person. Additionally, I can solve complicated problems since I can listen to other individuals state what's currently bothering them.
Kinship is also very vital in this career. A medicine physician can provide connections with patients in order to make them feel safe and welcomed. Connections can also positively impact the family physician. Not only does it benefit the doctor, it also allows the doctor to understand the patient on a deeper level. Even though I am not good at making connections with others, I plan on practicing and improving until I can make positive connections with other people. I can improve by practicing with my parents and discussing the traits and experiences we have in common. This will be beneficial since I can achieve greater results as I am starting off with people I normally talk to.
What hard skills - i.e. academic knowledge and technical expertise - are required to succeed in this career? Do you have sufficient foundation knowledge?
Basic academic knowledge such as mathematics, biology, and chemistry is required. Mathematics is required because family physicians are required to draw statistical graphs of successful rates of treatment. Performing this process is essential since the graph will give a clear idea of the survival rate of a patient. I have sufficient knowledge in math since I can solve and describe graphs and other math concepts efficiently. This will be essential in the long run since I can write prescriptions for a patient flexibly and productively.
Additionally, biomedical science is beneficial as it is the field of study that correlates with how biology correlates with medicine. Family physicians are required to learn how complex systems work in the human body. Although I do not have the acquired knowledge for biology right now, I strive to understand the concepts and the studies of this subject. Ultimately, chemistry is necessary since family physicians need to know the nature of the medicine and the chemical reactions after it is put into the human body.
After attaining good marks for these subjects, an individual who wants to achieve this career needs to study, take, and submit the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). The requirement score (good) to become a family physician is 127 out of 132 for one section, and 508 out of 528 for all four sections.
Degrees are also required in order to become a family physician. The main degree in order to become a family physician is the Doctor of Medicine degree (MD).
PREPARATION FOR MCAT exam (Entrance exam of MD)
In order to get a Doctor of Medicine degree, an individual must be able to pass the MCAT exam. Unfortunately, the MCAT exam is likely to be one of the easiest examinations through medical school. The USMLE is a series of 3 total exams that an individual needs to pass during their medical studies.
An individual taking this test will need an average of 200-300 hours of studying/reviewing, therefore resulting in 15 hours a week.
How do you plan to achieve career enhancement if you decide to move on with this career path?
If I decide to move on with this career path, my first step is to achieve the academic success involved with this career. Throughout this process, I will attain different abilities and traits such as confidence and acceptance. since an individual will be discussing problems with groups of audiences. Confidence can also benefit a family medicine physician since this will boost their level of communication skills. Even though I know this will be a tough task, I have come to realize that “success is the result of hard work.” - Thomas A.Edison. The next step is to learn the specific subjects prior to this career. These subjects include mathematics, biology, english composition, inorganic chemistry with lab, and organic chemistry with lab.
In conclusion, I have realized I will come to experience difficulty and stress. Although this task may be complicated, I believe I can positively impact lives throughout this career.
